Active Communities

Active Communities is an exciting initiative, led by The Active Wellbeing Society, Birmingham City Council and Solihull Council, that aims to create innovative solutions to make it easier for people to access social and physical activity. We are doing things differently! This means working to find lots of opportunities to come together and to participate in creating happier and healthier lives in local communities.

Sport Birmingham is an independent charity that uses the power of sport and physical activity to improve lives. We are the city's strategic sports partnership, working as a leading charity to connect places, people and communities to drive local innovation in the delivery of sport and physical activity.

The Active Wellbeing Society

The Active Wellbeing Society is a community benefit society and cooperative working to build healthy, happy communities living active and connected lives. We are grounded in the communities where inequalities are at their highest, and we work with them to tackle inequality and promote community development. We deliver a wide range of free activities and services aimed at improving wellbeing at an individual and community level.

Sport Structures

Sport Structures CIC is one of the largest training providers in the sport and physical activity sector offering education and training solutions along with both ‘on pitch’ and ‘off pitch’ apprenticeships. They seek to develop organisations and people through providing high quality and accessible opportunities for coaches, volunteers, and those that work in sport. This is underpinned by their experience of designing and creating learning.

Kickstart By The Active Wellbeing Society

Under the new Kickstart scheme, The Active Wellbeing Society is hosting 30 young people on a work program to develop skills and experience. The aim is to support young people towards finding a fulfilling future career. Kickstart is a DWP program which places young people with partnering organisations.

Ahead Of The Game - Moving Lives, Healthy Minds

The programme will focus on working with service users of the BSMHFT Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT's) based in Erdington and Longbridge, and will involve consultation and co-production with service users. The aim will be to create supportive and purposeful physical activity initiatives centred around patient motivations that are embedded in their long-term recovery plans

We offer a range of services and tailor the programme according to the individual or group's needs. We have developed our services to ensure each of our participants are able to gain the maximum from attending our programme.

Inclusive Educate Ltd

Inclusive Educate Ltd which aims are to upskill support workers, carers, community workers & volunteers to be able to facilitate physical activity. We offer a number of courses that are engaging, informative and develop individuals in the sector to feel more confident around Inclusion. We also place the necessary emphasis on developing people with learning disabilities by adapting the courses to suit their needs.

Develop Your Way

As part of Sport Birmingham's support of the local community sport network and response to Covid, we are offering a programme to 'Strengthen, Support & Sustain' frontline community development and delivery.

The programme includes 8 practical and informative learning modules and associated networking sessions, plus one-to-one organisational mentoring where you can discuss issues raised during the learning or have bespoke support around your business planning, governance, finance, workforce development or funding bids / tenders.

Organisations will have access to presentations, resources and a network of other community organisations through the Skills 360 platform.

We are Carers Trust Solihull, a charity that provides free help and support for unpaid carers of all ages. You don't need to be isolated – we can provide help, guidance, training and social activities for you. Saheli Hub

Saheli Hub is an independent organisation that does things differently in the city of Birmingham! Saheli Hub's main focus is to break down stereotypes of women and participation - especially in sport and physical activity. Over the years Saheli Hub has led the way, when it comes to the engagement and support of its local communities and the women in our communities to access physical activity and participation locally.


The Make A Difference (M.A.D) Birmingham project is a Sport Birmingham open access youth development programme. M.A.D Birmingham works with community partners, residents, parents and schools to provide a sustainable offer that has evolved from open access youth clubs and outreach services, to a tailored sports-driven mentoring programme for young people aged 11-16

Witton Lodge Community Association

Witton Lodge is a Community Association and Community Landlord based in Perry Common, in the North of Birmingham. Witton Lodge offer services with Jobs and Skills, deliver a wide range of Environmental Projects and promote local good health and wellbeing through our Living Well work.

Witton Lodge can help with Jobs and Skills, deliver a wide range of Environmental Projects and promote local good health and wellbeing through our Living Well work. Their group sessions are designed to help you learn and develop employability skills. Witton Lodge deliver free training and development sessions on Tuesdays and cover a wide range of topics such as:

  • Importance of CVs,
  • Interview and presentation skills,
  • Employers expectations,
  • Team working and leadership
  • Effective communication in the workplace.

We have our very own Perry Common History Project, recording the interesting history of Perry Common and the surrounding area and if you want to volunteer, well, there lots of opportunities too.

Spring 22 Community Hub

Spring 22 Community Hub is part of the Spring Housing Organisation. Spring 22 is an online Open College network training Centre and provides free training to the residents of Birmingham, based specifically in the Perry Barr area. The free training available through Spring 22 is related to all aspects of digital, coding, financial employment, health and wellbeing. Spring 22 additionally supports with benefit calculations and advice and guidance for those applying for social housing.

Spring 22 community Hub has a digital lending library and digital suite for those accessing the Hub and provides support and advice regarding the Perry Barr Neighbourhood Network Scheme
